Michael Tjon – Mechanic

The mark of a good mechanic is results, and Michael Tjon's (pronounced Chon) first race as the lead mechanic on Vincent Haskovec's Superstock machine at Daytona in 2005 resulted in a surprise victory for the Czech rider. Late in that race, Haskovec was the fastest man on the track and his triumphant win was not only a mark of his skill, but that of the team's ability to set up the machine for the really important lap - the last one. Tjon's know-how, grasp of strategy and mechanical ability were a big part of that win and Haskovec was highly complementary of Tjon’s work after the conquest.

Tjon's quiet but assured manner belies a vastly experienced professional wrench. Originally from Miami, Tjon spent the 1980s working as a race mechanic as a hobby, before making it his profession in 1994. He's worked on many different types of bikes over the years, from 250cc Grand Prix bikes to Supersport bikes to full-on factory Superbikes.

Tjon was put in charge of Geoff May’s Supersport machines in 2006, which resulted in five podium positions and the runner-up position in the Championship, a feat not often seen in the factory-dominated class.

For 2007, Tjon continues as the Crew Chief of Geoff May’s Supersport effort.
