Team Hammer Statement On Promoter Practice
In reaction to an AMA announcement today that Thursday's Suzuki Privateer Appreciation Day Presented by Team Hammer violated an AMA rule by excluding Kawasaki factory team rider Roger Hayden, Team Hammer's John Ulrich said, "We issued a press release in February stating what we were going to do, and why, and on Thursday we did exactly what we said we were going to do. Back in February I discussed the situation with Cameron Gray and he agreed with and supported my decision. AMA officials knew about and saw the press release and had six months to raise any concerns or objections and said nothing. I don't agree that our Thursday practice met the rulebook definition of a closed test, but my biggest objection is that officials said nothing over a six-month period, and then dropped their interpretation of a rule on us at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, then followed it up by publicly announcing a penalty before even telling me what they were doing to us. It's unprofessional."

Kipp Leads Supersport But Fades As Heat Takes Its Tole On Traction
Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki's Tom Kipp led most of the first two laps of the AMA Supersport race at Sears Point, but then started a slow drift rearwards on his Suzuki GSX-R600 as he lost rear tire grip. The problem came down to tire choice, a choice complicated by a dramatic rise in ambient temperature on race day.Kipp and the team had not encountered similar conditions and track temperature during runs in practice, and the extra heat on race day made the tire test data from the rest of the weekend invalid.Kipp was upbeat after the race and said he was looking forward to the AMA National at Road Atlanta in two weeks.

Craggill Third In Formula Xtreme Debut
Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki's Marty Craggill, the two-time Australian Superbike Champion who showed up at Sears Point to substitute for injured Josh Hayes--finished a close third in the Formula Xtreme race despite mistaking the start of the race for a sighting lap and getting run off the track by a competitor on the last lap!Craggill was confused at the start of the Formula Xtreme race, after watching the Supersport race, which as part of the pre-race action for live TV, features a sighting lap, a return to the grid, a warm-up lap, a return to the grid, and then the start. The Formula Xtreme race, which is not televised live, has a warm-up lap, a return to the grid, then the start.Craggill, who had qualified on the front row, said he was caught off guard and let about six riders pass him before he figured out that the race was on!Craggill still was quickly in the battle for second place, and was still in contention until a few bad breaks in traffic late in the race, and then held off strong challenges for third. It was still a remarkable performance for Craggill's first race in the U.S., first time on the tortuous Sears Point Raceway, and first time on Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki's potent GSX-R1000 on Michelin tires.
